Are you a bystander or a participant?

I wrote earlier about delighting yourself in the Lord, and He granting you the desires of
your heart.
The two aspects of this verse are 1. on God the provider of all things and 2. our role.
The passage says "to delight.....yourself.... "We are the ones that are responsible for
moving towards God as our source of provision.
When you look at the Psalms (especially
103) we discover not only aspects of God's character but all that He has done and provided
for us. God's provision is complete we have everything we need in Christ. 2 Peter 1:3
says "his divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through
our knowledge of him..." again we see His provision but the emphasis is on us to be
responsible to gain that knowledge.
It is interesting that in the middle of that Psalm we find verse 7 which says
"he made
known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel." Here we see two types
of people. The first is one who chose to move towards God (eg the burning bush, the time on
the mountain and the time spent in the tent of meeting). These experiences caused a
delighting in God. The other group chose to keep God at arms length and therefore only
understood God by His actions. Maybe this lack of delighting was one of the main causes
for their unbelief and failure to possess the land.
We need to learn to pursue God with all our heart. In life we can be an observer or a participant in what God has for us to do.
